　　 1. meanwhile = in the mean time在此期间、在同时

　　 They've arranged to have another meeting in two weeks, and meanwhilethe problem is getting worse and worse!

　　他们已经安排了两周内的另一个会议，而在此时，这个问题越变越糟。

　　 The computers should be working again soon.Meanwhile, could everyone get on with some paperwork or something?

　　 meanwhile可放句首，记得要加逗号哦!

　　 2. presently 现在、目前

　　 Of 200 boats, only 20 are presentlyoperational.

　　 200艘船中，目前只有20艘可用。

　　 Three sites are presently under consideration for the new hotel.

　　目前这家新饭店的选址有三个地点在考虑中。

　　 presently习惯放于be动词或助动词之后。

　　 3. immediately = as soon as 一…就

　　 I'll call you immediatelyI hear anything.

　　我一有什么消息就给你打电话。

　　 4. previously 先前地、以前地

　　 She was previouslyemployed as a tour guide.

　　她以前受聘当导游。

　　 I had posted the card two monthspreviously.

　　我两个月以前就把那张卡片寄出去了。

　　 5. in the past 在过去

　　 In the past, this sort of work was all done by hand.

　　在过去，这种工作完全是人工完成的。

　　 6. subsequently 接着、随之

　　 In 1982 he was arrested and subsequentlyconvicted on drug trafficking charges.

　　他在1982年被捕，随之被定运送毒品之罪。

　　 7. eventually 更终

　　 Although she had been ill for a long time, it still came as a shock when sheeventually died.

　　虽然她已病了好长时间，但当她更后去世时，我们仍然感到非常震惊。

　　语法补充：Eventually 和 finally的不同:

　　用finally 表达列表中的更后一个项目、口述的更后一点或是表达某事「终于达成」(有开心或松一口气之意味)。

　　用eventually表示in the end(在更终)，通常是用于长时间、下很多功夫或是遇到很多问题的事件。

　　 8. currently 目前

　　 Mr. Cooper is currentlyunavailable. Would you like to leave a message?

　　 Cooper先生目前无法接听电话，请问您要留言吗?
